Description
During a time when Virginia was still segregated, Reston welcomed and celebrated diversity like no other community in the Commonwealth. In 1969 African American residents formed Reston Black Focus, a group dedicated to celebrating and promoting a better understanding of African-American culture. Reston Black Focus sponsored the Reston Black Arts Festival, a three-day celebration featuring African art, dance, music, poetry, and food, annually during the late 1960s through the late 1970s, as well as other programs celebrating African-American culture. The collection contains papers from the Reston Black Focus organization, such as correspondence, advertisements, and financial and general information. Also included in the collection are papers pertaining to the Reston Homeowners Association. Collection comprises 2.75 linear feet; 6 boxes.
