Description

Architects William J. Conklin and James S. Rossant were instrumental in the design and construction of Reston’s first project, Lake Anne Village. As members of Whittlesey and Conklin, Architects (later known as Conklin and Rossant, Architects), Conklin and Rossant were responsible the original master planning of Reston and the individual design of buildings at Lake Anne. Their innovative concept to create several high-density villages, each with a village center employing mixed-use concepts, was at the heart of the Reston Master Plan approved in 1962 by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The collection contains items that relate to the early construction and planning of Reston by Conklin and Rossant, Architects including plans, reports, correspondence, and brochures about Reston. It also contains photographs, drawings and negatives which were used in the construction and promotion of Reston. Materials date from 1966 to 1990.
